Dear Reader,
I would suggest you talk to your teacher and your parents. Figure out in what area you are making poor choices. If it is in a variety of areas, try to find the area that has caused you the most challenge and focus on that area first. Your teacher and parent should be able to help you identify the area, and find strategies to help you improve. Communicate and ask for help. You took the first step--reflection.
Best of luck,
Abby

Dear Reader,
I would suggest talking to your classroom teacher. See if she will allow you opportunities to sing songs that relate to the standards. That way, you can fullfil your passion while reinforcing learning for your classmates. I have a strong feeling that she will agree. = )
Best of Luck,
Abby

Dear Abby,
Dear Abby,
I was being bullied. I already talked to the kids who bully me and they apologized. I felt better for a while. Now, I feel sad again. Not because they started bullying me again, but because I feel left out. No, they don't call me names, or make fun of me anymore, but they don't include me in their games and they never ask me to play with them. I don't want to invite myself because I am afraid they will not want me around. What should I do?
Yours truly,
Once Bullied Now Alone

Dear Reader,
Dear Once Bullied Now Alone,
I am so happy to here that kids are not bullying you anymore. People often say, "kids can be so cruel." It is so sad, what is sadder is that if they are not confronted when they are kids and fix the problem, they grow up to be even more cruel as adults. It is important for kids to stick together and stand up to bullies. my advice to you is to start with one or two kids and ask them to play with you. Once they do, others will naturally join in. I promise.
Sometimes it is nice to play alone, too. I enjoy a little alone time to read, write, or draw.
Best wishes,
Abby

Dear Abby,
Dear Abby,
Well this is my problem. I like to play soccer. I like soccer because it inspires me. I want to be a good player, like Xavi from the Barcelona team. The problem is that I have asthma. My asthma keeps me away from playing soccer because I get really tired. What should I do? Please write back.
Sincerely,
Asthmatic

Dear Reader,
Dear Asthmatic,
When my sister was two she was in the hospital with asthmatic bronchitis. I remember how worried I was about her. Today, she leads a happy healthy life. When you are a small child, your body is still developing and growing. It is important to "listen to your body." You should play soccer when you feel well, but monitor your breathing, and don't over exert. Play to play, not to compete. When you are competing, you may push yourself and your body too far. When you are a little older, and your body has developed more, you may find playing harder is okay. But for now, your body knows best! Take it easy and enjoy the game.
Sincerely,
Abby

Dear Abby
Dear Abby,
I don't know what to do. I am a good girl. I always try to do my best. I just feel sad because I can't tell my mom the truth. My family does not have a lot of money, so getting the free lunch really helps my family out. I know my mom really wants me to do my best in school, but I can't because I don't eat the school lunch. My mom expects me to and I really want to eat, but the food doesn't agree with me. I know my family cannot afford to send me to school with a lunch everyday, what should I do?
Thank you,
Sad and Hungry

Dear Sad and Hungry,
I am a mother of a child who is very particular about what food she will eat. I try to feed her a hefty breakfast in case she does not like the food at school. I would like you to consider talking to your mother openly. If you are holding in how you feel, that cannot feel good. You might be surprised at what solutions you and your mom can come up with--together! Peanut butter sandwiches and cheese and crackers are often inexpensive, yet filling.
Good Luck,
Abby
